Who we are
BidCanada is an online auction marketplace for enthusiast vehicles in Canada. This policy explains how we collect, use, retain and delete personal information, in accordance with the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
What we collect — and why
- Email, display name, phone number, province — required to operate your account, verify bidders, and connect buyers and sellers after a sale.
- Payment card — handled entirely by Stripe. BidCanada never sees or stores your card number; we store only a Stripe customer reference. Your card is charged only for listing fees and the buyer premium — never for the vehicle.
- Listing photos and descriptions — published as part of your auction listing.
- IP addresses — logged solely for fraud detection and purged after 90 days. Never shown to other users or sold.
What we never collect
- Government ID documents (any identity verification for high-value bids is handled off-platform and not stored)
- Social insurance numbers
- Banking or wire-transfer details — vehicle payment is arranged directly between buyer and seller
Retention
- Account data: kept while your account is active
- Auction, bid, comment and dispute records: 7 years (tax and legal requirements)
- Fraud detection records: 3 years
- IP logs: 90 days
Deletion and access rights
You can delete your account from your profile settings. Your personal information is anonymized within 30 days: bids and comments are detached from your identity, your profile is scrubbed, and your Stripe customer record (including your card) is deleted. Auction records are retained without your identity for legal purposes.
You may request a copy of your data at any time from your profile page or by emailing admin@bidcanada.ca. We respond within 30 days as PIPEDA requires.
